Born in Turin in 1987, Filippo Cornaglia is a drummer and percussionist with a solid classical background, known for his constant sound exploration and for integrating experimental elements within musical tradition. After beginning his musical journey studying violin and cello in childhood, he turned to drums. From 2004 to 2007, he attended the Centro Jazz Torino under the guidance of Paolo Franciscone, and then continued his studies at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Turin, in the percussion class of Maestro Riccardo Balbinutti, where he graduated with honors in 2013.

During his time at the Conservatory, he participated in symphonic productions under Maestro Ratti and played in contemporary music ensembles under Maestro Bertola. He also collaborated with the “Divertimento Ensemble” in Milan, which specializes in contemporary repertoire. His classical training and in-depth study of contemporary music allowed him to develop a musical approach that combines timbral and sound exploration with innovative uses of unconventional instruments, drawing inspiration from the avant-garde of John Cage and the minimalism of Steve Reich.

Alongside his academic studies, Filippo refined his drumming with Lele Melotti and Alfredo Golino. These years marked the beginning of his professional career, which kicked off in 2015 with a long-term collaboration with Alberto Bianco in the tour "Guardare per aria," followed by over 150 concerts throughout Italy. During this time, he also participated in the production of Andrea Laszlo De Simone's album "Uomo Donna" confirming his interest in projects that blend tradition and sonic innovation.

In 2016, he began a significant collaboration with Niccolò Fabi, participating in the tour "Una somma di piccole cose" performing in major Italian theaters and European clubs. He continued this collaboration until 2017, when he contributed to the album "Diventi Inventi 1997-2017" and participated in Fabi's 20th-anniversary concert at the PalaLottomatica in Rome. Concurrently, he collaborated with Levante in her live performances during her time as a judge on “X-Factor Italia”.

From 2017 to 2019, Filippo was involved in various discographic projects and tours. He recorded the album "Quattro" with Alberto Bianco and participated in the production of Andrea Laszlo De Simone's "Immensità" a large orchestral project distributed internationally and used as a soundtrack in several films and commercials. These years solidified his role as a musician and creative producer, able to blend classical sounds with contemporary experimentation, as demonstrated by his ongoing exploration of unconventional sounds and his ability to combine percussive elements with instruments like the vibraphone and glockenspiel.

In 2021, he collaborated with several Italian artists in the studio, including Galeffi, Federico Dragogna, Emanuele Colandrea, and Luca Carocci, contributing to important discographic projects. In the same year, he participated in the production of Niccolò Fabi's album "Meno per meno," accompanying him in the inaugural concert at the Arena di Verona with the orchestra of Enrico Melozzi, continuing with a tour in major Italian theaters and winning the Tenco award for “Andare oltre” as best original song.

In 2023, Filippo began a new collaboration with Jeremiah Fraites of The Lumineers for the solo project "Piano Piano" participating in the summer tour in Italy. That year, he also debuted with his personal project, BAAB, presenting the album "Musica Solidificata" which explores the relationship between music, photography, and architecture. The project was officially presented at Paratissima in Turin and later at the Casa dell’Architettura in Rome. The year 2024 also marks the debut of the show "Re:cycle/Re:place" created by BAAB in collaboration with the Balletto Teatro di Torino, a work that unites musical improvisation and contemporary dance.

Since 2022, he has relocated to Rome, where he has started new collaborations with artists from the Roman scene, such as Bob Angelini, Andrea "Fish" Pesce, and Pier Cortese, participating in discographic and radio projects. During this time, he consolidates his role as a musician, arranger, and producer, continuing to explore new sound languages through artistic residencies and collaborations with emerging artists.

In 2024, he began a new collaboration with Malika Ayane, participating in the summer tour at major Italian festivals and the autumn theatrical tour. At the same time, he continues to work as a producer and arranger with Studio Lab 10 in Turin and Load in Rome, collaborating on discographic projects with both emerging and established artists, including John Qualcosa, Emit, Io Sono Cobalto, and Match.

Characterized by an approach that fuses classical tradition with contemporary experimentation, Filippo stands out for his ability to create complex and innovative soundscapes. He uses classical percussion instruments such as timpani and drums, as well as tuned instruments like the vibraphone and glockenspiel, often combined with sampled and unconventional sounds. His musical research focuses on integrating orchestral sonorities with unrecognizable elements, offering a sound vision that encourages listeners to explore new auditory dimensions.
